Lisa sent me several E-mail messages in August of 2002, most of which are below:
Harry ,
I don't know if you remember me I think I was a grade behind you in Jane Hougen's class. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading your life history off the website. I've always described my elementary and high school experience as "sano", innocent, naive and probably because it was the 50's information poor. I could not beleive your picture what happened to that fun loving skinny kid?
I find it difficult to describe my background from European immigrant parents, born and raised in Colombia y Venezuela and now all American wife, mother and grandmother.For my senior year my mom moved us ( my sister Dorothy and younger brothers)to Miami Beach so I graduated from Beach High. My dad sent me to a girls finishing school in Switzerland and Monaco and then I returned to Caracas. I don't know what influenced me to go to college because as you recall good Venezuelan girls were married by 19 . We actually were in Boston at the same time, I went to Pine Manor Jr.College 1 year (don't even know how I heard of it)and then Brandeis University for 2 and fudged credits from language skills graduated in 3 years. Broke my engagement to a dynamic Colombian boyfriend that went to MIT and decided not to go back to Caracas but rather get a job in NY and lived with my 75 year old Vienese grandmother in Manhattan. I met my husband David ( he picked me up in the cafeteria) while he was doing his internship in NY.He had just broken his engagement to a female medical student and we were engaged 3 weeks later! We are very opposite he is soft spoken, intellegent, patient,and best of all puts up with me.
We have been married 38 years and have 3 children Karen 37 lives in Chicago and has 2 boys 7 & 5 and just had my first grandaughter Caroline Elizabeth!!!My 2nd Nancy lives in LA had has 2 boys a 2yr old a 2 month old. My baby Michael 31 & 6'2 lives in NY 13 W 13 St. Hopefully we can get together because as a professional grandmother I am in one or 2 of those cities at least once a month to play with my grandbabies.I just returned from 2 months in Vail where we have our 2nd home.
Sally Gaffy now Sarah Duffield and I got together but as you might know she is now in Portland back in school.I love reunions and attended (with my husband and sister Dorothy) the one Jane did first . I will try to get to the next one someone organizes. Maybe herei n Atlanta cause delta is ready when you are and to get to heaven you have to change planes in Atlanta.
My husband David and I moved to Atlanta in 1970 (he's from Macon,Ga.)after internships in Detroit, Cleveland etc.and the Navy tour for 2 years in Beaufort SC in the heat of the Vietnam war!! Now were alone in Atlanta but when he retires we'll probably move to Miami Beach where my sister Dorothy, My mom and 18 cousins live.This is much longer than I ever planned !!
Why am I not on the web site? I can send you my sister and Gladys HoffmanGelb is in Miami her sister Ivonne Levy is in Caracas.
Thank you for your great web site. I thought Jane Hougen Fast was great cause she had the girls for Campo Alegre 6th grade up in touch with each other but your site is great! My friends here in Atlanta can always talk to or about "Missy" "Trissy"or Sissy and now thanks to you I can connect to some of our Campo Alegreites.
I am or was Elizabeth Mehler, I was Liz then but am Lisa Cohen now. My sister Dorothy Mehler Goihman is 2 years younger but 3 classes behind me. She did graduate from Colegio Americano whereas I graduated as I wrote you from Miami Beach High. My sister Dorothys phone # in Aventura, Fla. is 305 936-1204.
Gladys Hofman Gelb 305 672-7446 her sister Ivonne was really beautiful long blond hair and blue eyes she was one or two years younger and she is now Ivonne (Mrs, Nizzo) Levy and lives in Caracas and has a place in Miami Beach. I keep in touch with Jane Hougen and Sally Gaffy and used to be in touch with Carol Brinsmaid . Jane is our trusty Leader and co-ordinator. I did hear from Tom Jones after our Caracas reunion but lost his email address.
