Elaine & I spent 10 days in Costa Rica with our friends Sari & Arlin Roy. We had a wonderful time and I hope to write a page or two about the experience and post it here in the near future. Briefly, we flew from LaGuardia to San Jose, changing planes in Miami, on Thursday, January 31. We spent the night at the "Grano De Oro" hotel in San Jose and left the next morning in a rented white Jeep Cherokee to go our resort, Tambor Tropical, for the rest of the week. We drove to Punta Arenas, about 60 miles west of San Jose, where we caught the ferry over to Paquera on the Nicoya peninsula. The ferry took close to two hours. From Paquera we drove to Tambor on mostly dirt roads, which took about 1 hour.
We stayed in wonderful rooms, near the beach and pool, for the next 9 nights. While there we visited the towns of Cobano and Montezuma and drove to Mal Pais, a beach on the outer western Pacific shore of the Nicoya peninsula. On Saturday, February 9 th, we left Tambor, took the ferry back from Paquera to Punta Arenas and then drove to the town of Sarchi. Our visit to Sarchi, by luck, coincided with a parade of several hundred horsemen on high-stepping horses; an incredible treat. We drove from Sarchi to San Jose and spent the night in a small hotel, Miravila, in the suburb of San Jose. The next day, Sunday, February 10, we flew from San Jose to LaGuardia, again changing planes in Miami.
I took around 900 pictures with my digital camera, and Sari, Arlin and Elaine also took quite a few pictures. My storage space for digital pictures ran out as we arrived at Sarchi, before the horse parade began. I plan to scan in some pictures from that part of our trip. Though I will eventually put up several hundred pictures into web pages, I suspect that the 100 pictures with this web page will be more than adequate for most interests. These pictures are broken into four groups of 25 pictures. Each group consists of a web page with a table of 25 smaller "thumbnails". Clicking on the smaller picture will bring up a larger one. You can then use the browser's "BACK" button to go back to the table of Thumbnails. Though this layout make some pictures available to you much faster than, say, putting all 100 large pictures in one web page, each table could still take from 45 seconds to a minute or so to load over a 56K modem. I hope this gives you a flavor of the wonderful experience we all had.
